Located at the Chalk River Laboratories, the Near Surface Disposal Facility is a landfill site designed to store long-term low-level radioactive waste from the laboratory itself and future facility renovations and construction efforts.  Completion and closure of the mound is expected to take place in the next 100-150 years and is engineered to last at least 550 years.
